Day 161 – Disguise

She found the mask and placed it upon her face,
And through the shadows of the neatly cut holes
She let it rest until it covered all but her eyes
And saw the world before her, plated in gold

Maybe this could work, sheltered from all risk
Not like that silver lining that she’s been used to
Hiding away the intricacies upon her cheeks
Alas a renewed view: perhaps this could do

Covering the scars etched in beside her brows
Locked away for some time, to not be revealed
And the battle cries summoned her to the wreckage
For she must arm herself; this mask is her shield
